Unlocking Potential #OneTeam: Graham Buckley
Graham Buckley is a Business Development Manager with Unlocking Potential. As part of our #OneTeam series, Graham talks to us about starting up his marketing agency 10 years ago and covering the Fred West murder case as a journalist!
Graham, what is your role at UP, in a nutshell?
I’m a Business Development Manager on the Breakthrough Programme. I work with businesses that go through the two day workshop and then carry on their journey to receive support in whatever area they require. I present on the workshop and assist in the delivery of the marketing follow-on workshop. Having worked in Marketing, PR and Communications for the last 27 years (Aarrggghhhhhh!!) I offer advice and insights to clients on the programme where they have a marketing need.
What experience have you had working with businesses?
I started my own PR and Marketing consultancy in Cornwall and ran that for 10 years. In that role (and my role as an Account Director for a PR Agency in Cheltenham prior to starting my own business) I have worked (and continue to work) with businesses of all shapes and sizes – from start ups to multi-nationals to help them reach out and communicate to prospective and existing customers.
What do you most enjoy about working with businesses?
Making a difference. Chatting through the objectives (or challenges) they have and helping them to consider ways to approach them. Seeing the development that they make and seeing them grow is an amazing feeling; playing just a small role in, is highly rewarding.
How do you stay inspired?
The breadth of people and businesses that we get to work with keeps everything fresh and interesting. Marketing is an ever changing world in terms of techniques and technology but people are always at the heart of it. Communication is vitally important and I love the challenge of helping businesses navigate this.
A little bit about you:
Tell us something that someone would be surprised to know about you?
I covered the Fred and Rose West Murder case whilst working on newspapers in Gloucestershire.
What do you pretend to hate, but actually love?
Nothing – don’t see the point of that. If you love something – love it!
If you were famous, what would you be famous for?
Helping people to try and make sense of their world and how our patterns of behaviour are just that, we have the power to change them for the better.
