InFocus: Supporting Training In Action to develop a new customer base
Planning for recovery and business growth
Our InFocus Growth Planning days are intensive, one-to-one, facilitated sessions which help you look through fresh eyes at every aspect of your business, whether it’s working or not.
The devil is in the detail: with our help you’ll analyse rigorously, answer honestly and, as a result, diagnose and plan accordingly. This is what Juliet May from Training in Action (TiA) did recently, and this is how it went for her.
Juliet, please tell us a little bit about your business, and what it does:
TiA was established in Cornwall by Chris Cotton in 1989 as Training in Action Ltd. We work in partnership with global businesses to unlock the potential of their individuals through experiential leadership and team development. We have a network of facilitators, actors and coaches delivering tailor-made programmes in the UK and abroad, either face to face or in a digital environment.
Why did you decide to attend our InFocus Growth Planning Sessions?
TiA has been through a transition over the past few years, which saw myself and my business partner Gemma Hogg stepping into Director roles after working for the company for many years. With our long-term clients, our first challenge was to ensure we continued to provide excellent training whilst at the same time develop a new customer base in our newly established roles.
Simultaneously with the interruption of Covid and the uncertainty that this presented, we have had to rapidly change and develop most of our delivery to a virtual platform, which has been a very steep learning curve. We decided to attend the InFocus Growth Planning Sessions to review all our business operations and complete a gap analysis of the actions we needed to recover and develop new opportunities, giving us clear goals and timescales to keep us on track.
What were the key elements of the Growth Planning sessions that you found most useful for your business?
Completing the Growth Planning Framework with the help and support of our Business Development Manager, Jennie Wason, was the most useful element for us.
The discussions we had leading up to the completion of the framework provided us with clarity as to which areas of it were most important to us, this enabled us to have targeted discussions at a greater depth. It helped us align our goals as a partnership by looking at where we are now, where we want to be and how we go about doing this.
Jennie Wason, Business Development Manager, said:
The training and development corporate sector, which forms the bulk of the TiA client base, is a disrupted and changing market due to a combination of covid 19 and Brexit.
The Growth Planning sessions gave the Directors (Juliet and Gemma) the time and space to think about the direction of the business, conduct a review of their business operations and focus on priorities. This enabled them to identify clear goals and anchor positive actions in focused recovery plan.
What have you now implemented/changed about your business as a result of attending our Growth Planning Sessions?
We have gained confidence in our ability, and this has helped us with our decision making and implementation of digital delivery. We have started making training films as an aid to our online delivery, which is a completely new area for us.
We have now clearly defined roles and responsibilities and we’ve set goals that are achievable and realistic.
We are implementing a CRM system and a looking at running a Digital Marketing campaign.
What does the rest of 2021 look like for Training in Action?
After an uncertain 2020, we have spent much of this year working with our clients towards digital delivery and we have some great work coming up in the Autumn.
We are currently working alongside one of our global clients on an exciting project to deliver the implementation of a new behavioural framework throughout their company, with a series of workshops and blended delivery over the next few months.
We also have a return to face-to-face delivery with one of our UK clients in September, and we can’t wait to get back on site with them to deliver the programme!
What three words would you use to describe the support you have received from Unlocking Potential?
Constructive, reflective, invaluable.
If this is the kind of focused attention and concerted rigour which you think will help your business to set and reach new goals, why not book onto a Growth Planning Session soon? Find out more about our up coming Growth Planning session starting this September.
