Future Focus: Q4 Trends in online marketplaces and ecommerce shopping
Q4 Consumer Trends – Online Marketplaces
The final blog in our ‘Q4 Consumer Trends’ series (see previous blogs on Online Shopping, Social Media and Email Marketing), sees Mish Poynter and Jaco Coetzee share knowledge on how consumers are increasingly turning towards marketplace purchasing and how shopping online has evolved since the pandemic began.
Marketplace Trends
57% of shoppers buy from marketplaces, like Amazon, Etsy and eBay. This is much higher than a retailer’s own website. There is now emerging growth in niche marketplaces, for example, a marketplace for artists to sell artwork only.
Amazon Trends
Over a third of all UK shopping happens on Amazon. One in five said their intention to buy on Amazon will increase in the future. 58% of Amazon’s sales are made up of SME (Small or Medium size Enterprise) brands.
Ecommerce Trends
Since the start of the pandemic, 60% of people have said they won’t change their online shopping trends in the future. Returning customers can contribute a significant amount of revenue, so building activity to boost brand loyalty into your sales strategy isn’t something to ignore.
Alternative payment trends
Alternative payment methods such as PayPal are growing in popularity. 32% of people now prefer to pay for items online using PayPal, this is set to grow to 42% in the UK in the next two years.
