Debs, tell us more about your role:
Essentially my role works across the organisation supporting all our programmes with a focus on solid operations and great recruitment. Alongside our Recruitment Executive, I manage our award winning UPJobs platform, helping businesses here in Cornwall find brilliant talent. I work with a passionate team and passionate businesses, a recipe for success!
What experience have you had working with businesses, and what do you enjoy the most?
I have been with Unlocking Potential for over 10 years now. Previously I worked within the leisure industry as a Centre Manager for large health club chains. Since joining Unlocking Potential I have worked with a variety of new businesses through to established businesses as a Business Development Manager. I have also co-delivered our previously successful Breakthrough Programme, gone on to deliver a second round of that programme, and also delivered the ‘Stand out from the Crowd’ programme. Just to add another programme, I designed and implemented a work experience programme called ‘Gateway’. The passion, creativity, courage, and drive you see every day in the people at the heart of those businesses, making something happen for themselves and others – is what I enjoy the most.
How do you stay inspired?
Reading stories of success that businesses achieve here in the county, and just working alongside truly brilliant people that care.
What is your favourite meal to cook?
I have to say I am lazy in the kitchen, but I do kick in when the weather kicks in, that’s heat not the Cornish mizzle! So when the sun shines, it’s my turn to shine at my BBQ. Or I have one of those outdoor paella kit tripod things, so on a non- windy evening they are pretty awesome.
Where would you like to be a fly on the wall?
About the 10th brick up on the left, just far enough above my paella dish, the smells are gorgeous!
If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be?
Two minutes on an electric toothbrush, it’s a necessary job though!
