Business showcase: a Future Focus London Lab
Highlights from the Cornish Press Open Day
As part of our Future Focus Media and Press Relations lab series, we took twelve businesses to the Union Rooms in London to showcase their products to a select group of journalists in the lifestyle and fashion industries. They included: Atlantic Blankets; Dick Pearce Bellyboards; EKO; House of Artists; Love & Honor; Roo’s Beach; Skinflint Design; Tide & Seek; Trailback; Uzma Bozai; Watershed; The World In Cushions.
“It’s been a great opportunity to speak to journalists that either we haven’t spoken to before or that we have only had contact with on email” said Sarah from Skinflint Design; a business that salvage and restore vintage lighting.
“The press feedback has been great, the journalists have had the opportunity to touch, feel and ask questions about your business”.
The lab trip is part of a series of sessions, held in Cornwall where businesses are able to get a real understanding of how the media work, what they expect from you as a business and how to get the most out of press relationships.
Jamie Johnson and Andy Cameron are partners in Dick Pearce and Friends; a handmade wooden bellyboard company based in Newquay, Cornwall.
“We’ve been introduced to some really influential member of press through the London showcase and it now looks like we’ll get some really good features in some of the national press” said Andy.
Atlantic Blankets create soft interior throws and blankets alongside stylish outdoor picnic blankets and rugs, travel wraps and scarves.
“The London lab has been amazing!” said Gemma, from Atlantic Blankets.
“I’ve spoken to Living Etc., Country Homes & Interiors, Wallpaper and lots of other press that we would not have had the chance to link up with if we had done it ourselves.
“If any other businesses get the chance to go on a Future Focus lab series then I would whole heartedly recommend it. It’s not only allowed us to think about the bigger picture but it also gives the skills and support to help drive the business in the right direction”.
