Breakthrough Client Launches First Exhibition
Lynne Speake brings Precious Collective to life in first Exhibition
A spectacular exhibition of jewellery artists is in full flow at the Ocean Studios, Royal William Yard, Plymouth. The collective of artists is the brainchild of Lynne Speake, herself an artist, jeweller and sculptor.
Lynne came to the Breakthrough start-up business support workshop as a jeweller with a very unique style and approach. Her pieces use an eclectic range of media; from reused vintage treasures to re-purposed pieces of discarded materials. In researching her customer segment Lynne was challenged with finding other jewellers or artists she aligned with. Lynne took this to the next level and saw the opportunity to bring such artists together. And, fueled by her drive and dedication, Lynne has now created the ‘Precious Collective’, a force-majeure in the jewellery sector.
The Precious Collective
The Precious Collective is a community formed of artists and makers producing jewellery that might not fit -literally and metaphorically- in to a stereotypical jewellery box. What we as individuals perceive as precious or ‘of value’ is a real spectrum and Lynne has responded to this by reaching out to fellow artists who harness such variety.
Lynne created a worldwide Instagram network of over five thousand followers which led to members coming together for their first exhibition in the Ocean Gallery, Royal William Yard in Plymouth. The stunning exhibition gave members of the Collective such as Russian artist Lenka Saenko and Chinese artist Sui-Ling Wang, the opportunity to have their pieces viewed and indeed purchased by a new audience.
“It’s inspiring and an incredible opportunity to expand my own knowledge of what everyone is making within the contemporary jewellery field”.
Fellow Cornish jeweller Lucy Spink, also a Breakthrough start-up client, is inspired by what’s precious to her – the unique forms of moss and lichen. Integrating pieces of nature in to her work Lucy joined the Precious Collective too and relished the opportunity to exhibit amongst worldwide creative talent.
“The Precious Collective has given me the space to exercise my brain in a more artistic way and push the boundaries of what I am making into a more conceptual space. The beautiful pieces of lichen used in my work for this exhibition are ones I collect while I’m out walking in Cornwall. They have influenced my designs from day one so it’s great to have an opportunity to showcase them as integral features of my art.”
Both Lucy and Lynne accessed support through Unlocking Potential’s Breakthrough programme. Lynne worked with Business Development Manager, Rachel Koerner.
“It’s a privilege to support people in nurturing their passion and to see Lynne and Lucy showcase their work together with their worldwide collective is truly fantastic. Connecting people and developing people’s confidence, self-worth and talents is a key part of what the Breakthrough team does; it is wonderful to see clients then pay this forward as Lynne and Lucy have. With the next exhibition already planned in Lille, France at Alliages, the gallery of world-renowned jeweller Juan Riusech, it is testament to their creative talents, spirit and, above all, hard work.”
